Temporary closure of Jameson Street in Bellville
17 July 2023
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate advises the public in the Bellville area that a portion of Jameson Street from Jip de Jager Drive to Cameronians Avenue will be temporarily closed due to roadworks. This work forms part of the current upgrade of Jip de Jager Drive into a dual carriageway. The temporary closure is planned from today, 17 July 2023, until Friday, 17 November 2023, Monday to Saturday.
The Jameson Street and Jip De Jager Drive intersection will be temporarily closed, due to the upgrading of the intersection. The upgrading of this intersection forms part of the current dualling of Jip De Jager Drive.
The intersection will be upgraded with the following:
- Additional lanes within both Jameson Street and Jip De Jager Drive.
- Additional traffic signals to accommodate the increased lanes.
- Universal/pedestrian access, as per the City's Standard Guideline Document.
- A public transport embayment.
Alternative routes to access Jip de Jager Drive are available via Dragoon Avenue, Jorgensens Avenue and Van Riebeeckshof Road or Cameronians Avenue, Wylant Street, Chavonne Street, Mara Street and Pandoer Street.
'We have noted concerns around traffic congestion in this area and we hope that the additional lanes and traffic signals will go a long way in alleviating this problem. We urge road users to exercise caution and adhere to road signs during the course of the roadworks,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
